The Institut de Mathématiques de Bourgogne (https://math.u-bourgogne.fr/) at the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France, is offering a postdoctoral position in Optimization for a period of one year. The position is the framework of the project EEQUAR, funded by EUR-EIPHI Graduate School, FEDER-Bourgogne and BFC-Region.
Topics
This project is aimed at the study of separable optimization problems with coupled constraints. It focuses on the use of a numerical method based on Moreau-Yoshida approximations and its application in image restoration, signal processing and location problems.
The work of the postdoc will include two main parts. One part will focus on the implementation of this method and in particular the study of convergence and its implementation. The other part aims to compare said method with the current “vogue” methods which do not give complete satisfaction, in particular regarding to the speed of convergence.

Candidates must hold a PhD in optimization, nonsmooth analysis, or a related field, and should have a demonstrated ability or the potential for high quality research. We expect to hire a candidate with a good balance between a solid theoretical background and practical experience in software development.
The postdoc position is for one year, from September 1, 2022 until August 31, 2023. The offered net salary is 2300 euros per month. La Fondation Mathématique Jacques Hadamard (FMJH) lance son appel à candidatures pour le financement de post-docs d’excellence de 3 ans « Lecteurs Hadamard ».
Ces postes sont destinés à des jeunes mathématiciens (ou mathématiciennes!) ayant prouvé leur excellence dans l’élaboration et la transmission des connaissances. Ce sont des contrats post-docs de longue durée (3 ans) comportant une faible charge d’enseignement (correspondant à un tiers du service statutaire d’un Maître de Conférence des Universités). Le salaire est d’environ 28 900 € net/an (avant impôt).
Ces postes seront rattachés à un des laboratoires membres de la FMJH.

Contexte: La recherche dans le domaine de l’optimisation et de l’aide à la décision réalise ces dernières années des avancées qualitatives ouvrant la voie à la manipulation de données et de modèles de grandes dimensions. Pour permettre ce passage à l’échelle, l’efficacité computationnelle des algorithmes d’optimisation présente de forts enjeux qui se combinent avec leur exploitation au sein de plateformes de calcul. Pour accompagner cette évolution, le Départe- ment Décision et Optimisation du LAAS souhaite recruter un(e) ingénieur(e) de recherche en informatique avec des compétences dans les méthodes et algorithmes d’optimisation (discrète et continue).
La personne recrutée viendra en appui pour le développement, la validation expérimentale et la valorisation de méthodes issues des travaux de recherche de façon à tirer le meilleur bénéfice des plateformes de calcul.
Elle travaillera avec les membres des équipes MAC et ROC et en interaction avec les ingénieurs qui gèrent la plateforme de calcul du LAAS.
Salaire : Ce poste de CDD IR sera financé pendant 12 mois par le département DO du LAAS CNRS. Le salaire sera d’environ 2460 € brut par mois.

L’unité MIA Paris Saclay (localisée très prochainement à Palaiseau) cherche à recruter un(e) ingénieur(e) de recherche spécialiste de l’optimisation pour l’apprentissage statistique (niveau ingénieur de recherche IR).
Nous cherchons une personne ayant une thèse (ou sortant d’une école d’ingénieur) à la pointe dans le domaine de l’optimisation et de l’algorithmie pour les méthodes d’apprentissage statistique et profond et motivée par des applications en sciences du vivant.

Le centre de recherche GERAD organise les prochaines Journées de l’optimisation à HEC Montréal du 16 au 18 mai 2022. Pour faire de cet événement un succès, nous organisons un stream d’exposés autour de l’optimisation continue, l’algèbre linéaire numérique et le langage de programmation Julia. Ce stream est également pertinent pour des chercheurs qui ne sont pas encore utilisateurs, mais s’intéressant à Julia.
La date limite de soumission des résumés est le 8 avril.

Le CEMRACS 2022 aura lieu du 18 juillet au 26 août au Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques (CIRM) de Luminy. Il sera dédié aux problèmes de transport, en particulier en Physique, en Biologie et en Trafic urbain. Le CEMRACS est une école d’été de six semaines qui a pour but de favoriser les collaborations entre scientifiques, académiques et industriels. Nous lançons dès à présent un appel à proposer des projets scientifiques pour la session de recherche.
L’édition 2022 sera composée
d’une école d’été (du 18 au 22 juillet), avec des cours dispensés par différents spécialistes : Filippo Santambrogio, Giacomo Dimarco, Cécile Appert-Rolland, Sepideh Mirrahimi, et Lénaïc Chizat; et des exposés de Florence Hubert, Cécile Taing, Xavier Besseron et d’autres à venir.

The Foundation of Computational Mathematics 2023 conference will take place in Paris, France, from June 12 to 21, 2023, at the International Conference Center of Sorbonne Université.

The conference in Paris will be the ninth conference of the Society, following the meeting that gave birth to the idea of FoCM in Park City (1995), and 8 very successful meetings in Rio de Janeiro (1997), Oxford (1999), Minneapolis (2002), Santander (2005), Hong Kong (2008), Budapest (2011), Montevideo (2014) and Barcelona (2017). The conference in Vancouver planned for 2020 was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Each of the previous conferences had several hundred participants from all branches of mathematics that impinge on computation in the broadest sense.
FoCM conferences are usually organized as follows: mornings are devoted to plenary talks and afternoons to the workshops, which are run in parallel. The conference is divided in three periods of three days, and each workshop is held during one of these periods. The spirit of FoCM is that participants are encouraged to come to the whole duration of the conference, and attend talks in different workshops. Poster sessions are also organized by each workshop.

Le prix Maurice Audin de mathématiques est attribué tous les deux ans à un lauréat ou une lauréate exerçant en France, et à un lauréat ou une lauréate exerçant en Algérie.
L’appel est lancé pour les candidatures de mathématiciennes et mathématiciens exerçant en France.

The fifth Stephen Smale Prize will be awarded at the Foundations of Computational Mathematics (FoCM) conference that will be held in Paris, France, June 12-21, 2023. The goal of the Smale Prize is to recognize major achievements in furthering the understanding of the connections between mathematics and computation, including the interfaces between pure and applied mathematics, numerical analysis, and computer science.
To be eligible for the prize, a candidate must be in his or her early to mid-career, that is, removed typically by at most ten years from his or her (first) doctoral degree by the first day of the FoCM meeting (June 12, 2023). Eligible candidates should be nominated by email to the chair of FoCM, Albert Cohen (albert.cohen@sorbonne-universite.fr) no later than September 11, 2022.
Each nomination (self-nominations excluded) should be accompanied by a brief supporting letter, the nominee’s CV and should include at least three letters of recommendation. The recipient of the prize will be expected to give a plenary lecture at the conference. A written version of this lecture (tagged as the Smale Prize Lecture) will be included in the volume of plenary talks.
